Is your parting getting wider or your edges thinner? Hair loss in women is common. It is also very treatable when the cause is found early.
At Hairhub Trichology Centre in Nairobi, we see women with every kind of hair loss. We start by finding out why.

Common causes of hair loss in women
- Female pattern hair loss, a genetic condition
- Traction alopecia from tight braids, weaves, ponytails and locs
- CCCA, a scarring hair loss that starts at the crown
- Low iron stores, even when lab results look normal
- Low vitamin D
- Menopause and hormonal changes
- Shedding after childbirth, illness or stress
- Breakage from relaxers and colouring
The iron question
Iron deficiency is one of the major reasons for hair loss in women. Low iron stores, measured as ferritin, are an early marker.
Labs often call ferritin above 15 ng/mL normal. Hair loss experts suggest that hair tends to do better at 70 to 100 ng/mL. So a normal result may still be too low for your hair. Your doctor should guide any iron supplements.
Not sure what it is? Show us.
Tilt your head toward a window, take a photo of the spot that worries you and send it on WhatsApp. A trichologist looks at it and tells you what to do next. No queue, no guessing.
Vitamin D and hair
Long term vitamin D deficiency has been linked to hair loss and scalp conditions. A blood test is the only reliable way to know your level. Review it with your doctor or trichologist before taking supplements.
Menopause and hair
Hormonal changes around menopause can thin the hair and change the scalp. These changes can be managed with the right assessment and care.
Locs, braids and your edges
Locs do not cause thinning by themselves. Thinning usually comes from breakage, tension, inflammation or genetics. Caught early, breakage and tension damage often improve.

Frequently asked questions
Can a woman have a hair transplant?
Yes, if she is a suitable candidate. An assessment comes first because hair loss in women often has a medical cause.
Does PRP work for women?
Yes. PRP is used for female pattern hair loss.
Should I check my iron if my hair is shedding?
Checking iron is a reasonable step. Ask for ferritin, serum iron, iron saturation and TIBC. Review the results with your doctor.

Would recommend them any day. They are such a friendly community, very warm and kind when it comes to their service delivery and do not get me started on the results! They do deliver on what they say and I am absolutely grateful for their support in growing my hair back to what it is today! They did make my dream come true, and finally I can get to embrace who I am fully when I look at myself in the mirror. Thank you so much Hair Hub!
I thank God that after 2 gruesome years of scalp psoriasis, I have finally found a solution that works like magic. This was only possible with the services I got from Hair Hub at Bemuda Plaza, after years of spending so much money on other hair products on the market, all in vain. The first consultation I had was with Celestine Gitau and 3 weeks later I can say without a doubt that I no longer have any flaking or itching of the scalp and the inflammation has since reduced drastically.
Customer service before the procedure was smooth and engaging. The experts handled everything very professionally. 10/10 would recommend.
Their Jet Peel PRP technology is on another level. My hair is gradually coming back. I am happy.
