Alopecia Treatment in Kenya

Hairhub Trichology Centre · Nairobi

Alopecia is simply the medical word for hair loss. The right alopecia treatment depends on which type you have.

At Hairhub Trichology Centre in Nairobi, our trichologists assess the type of alopecia first. Then we build a plan around it.

We have pre written the message for you, with a link to this page. Keep it, add a line about your hair and send. It helps us see what you were reading, so you get a useful answer, not a generic one.

Send a photo of your scalp on WhatsApp. Our team advises on the next step.

Androgenetic alopecia

This is genetic hair loss. It is called male pattern baldness in men and female pattern hair loss in women. It affects roughly half of all adults at some point after puberty.

Follicles at the top of the head become sensitive to androgen hormones. They shrink over time. The hair grows finer and shorter. Some follicles stop producing hair. It shows at the crown, the temples or a receding front hairline.

It can be managed and slowed with ongoing alopecia treatment such as PRP, GFC and topical therapy. Suitable candidates can also consider an FUE transplant.

Traction alopecia

Traction alopecia comes from tight, constant styling. Braids, weaves, high buns, ponytails and tightly twisted locs all pull on the hair. It starts as breakage along the hairline, then thinning.

Left too long, the pulling damages the follicle and the loss becomes permanent. Caught early, it often improves once the tension stops.

Not sure what it is? Show us.

Tilt your head toward a window, take a photo of the spot that worries you and send it on WhatsApp. A trichologist looks at it and tells you what to do next. No queue, no guessing.

Scarring alopecia, including CCCA

CCCA, or Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia, is seen mostly in women of African descent. It starts at the crown and spreads outward. Follicles are destroyed and replaced with scar tissue.

Lichen planopilaris and frontal fibrosing alopecia are other scarring types. This hair loss cannot be reversed once scarring sets in. Watch for itching, tenderness, dryness or redness at the crown and see a trichologist early.

Hair loss from shedding and deficiencies

Telogen effluvium is heavy shedding that can follow stress, illness, childbirth or other shocks to the body. Low iron stores and low vitamin D are also linked to hair loss and can make other types worse.

How alopecia treatment starts at Hairhub

We take your history and examine your scalp under a trichoscope. Where the cause goes deeper, we discuss a scalp biopsy and blood tests. Two types can happen together, so a careful assessment matters.

Frequently asked questions

Can alopecia go away?

Some types improve fully once the cause is treated, such as early traction alopecia and many cases of shedding. Genetic hair loss can be managed. Scarring alopecia can be stopped from spreading, but lost follicles do not return.

Is a hair transplant possible with alopecia?

It depends on the type. Transplants can work for stable genetic hair loss. They are not done into active scarring alopecia.

How do I know which type I have?

A trichologist can tell by examining your scalp up close and, if needed, with tests.

Would recommend them any day. They are such a friendly community, very warm and kind when it comes to their service delivery and do not get me started on the results! They do deliver on what they say and I am absolutely grateful for their support in growing my hair back to what it is today! They did make my dream come true, and finally I can get to embrace who I am fully when I look at myself in the mirror. Thank you so much Hair Hub!

I thank God that after 2 gruesome years of scalp psoriasis, I have finally found a solution that works like magic. This was only possible with the services I got from Hair Hub at Bemuda Plaza, after years of spending so much money on other hair products on the market, all in vain. The first consultation I had was with Celestine Gitau and 3 weeks later I can say without a doubt that I no longer have any flaking or itching of the scalp and the inflammation has since reduced drastically.
