What is alopecia areata?
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition. The immune system attacks hair follicles, so hair falls out in patches. The follicles are not destroyed, which is why hair can grow back.
Signs of alopecia areata
- Smooth, round or oval bald patches
- Patches that appear quickly, sometimes in weeks
- Patches in the beard or eyebrows as well as the scalp
- Short broken hairs at the edge of a patch

Tilt your head toward a window, take a photo of the spot that worries you and send it on WhatsApp. A trichologist looks at it and tells you what to do next. No queue, no guessing.
What can make it worse?
Long term vitamin D deficiency is associated with worsening autoimmune hair conditions such as alopecia areata. Checking your levels with a blood test is a reasonable step.
How alopecia areata treatment works at Hairhub
- We take your history and examine the patches under a trichoscope.
- We rule out other causes, such as traction or a scalp infection.
- We check for factors such as vitamin D and iron where needed.
- We recommend a treatment plan based on how large and how active the patches are.
Some patches regrow on their own. Others need treatment. Patches can also return, so follow up matters.

Frequently asked questions
Does alopecia areata grow back?
Often, yes. The follicles stay alive, so hair can regrow. Some cases need treatment and some return later.
Is alopecia areata contagious?
No. It is an autoimmune condition. It cannot spread from person to person.
Can stress cause alopecia areata?
Triggers vary from person to person. A trichologist can help you find the factors in your case.
Can a hair transplant fix alopecia areata?
Transplants are not the usual answer for an active autoimmune condition. The first step is assessment and treatment.

Would recommend them any day. They are such a friendly community, very warm and kind when it comes to their service delivery and do not get me started on the results! They do deliver on what they say and I am absolutely grateful for their support in growing my hair back to what it is today! They did make my dream come true, and finally I can get to embrace who I am fully when I look at myself in the mirror. Thank you so much Hair Hub!
I thank God that after 2 gruesome years of scalp psoriasis, I have finally found a solution that works like magic. This was only possible with the services I got from Hair Hub at Bemuda Plaza, after years of spending so much money on other hair products on the market, all in vain. The first consultation I had was with Celestine Gitau and 3 weeks later I can say without a doubt that I no longer have any flaking or itching of the scalp and the inflammation has since reduced drastically.
Customer service before the procedure was smooth and engaging. The experts handled everything very professionally. 10/10 would recommend.
Their Jet Peel PRP technology is on another level. My hair is gradually coming back. I am happy.
