What is trichoscopy?
Trichoscopy is the close examination of the hair and scalp under magnification. Your hair is viewed under a trichoscope. We can see single strands and the scalp surface in detail.
What the analysis can show
- Whether hair is thinning, breaking or shedding
- Miniaturising follicles, an early sign of genetic hair loss
- Signs of inflammation, flaking or infection on the scalp
- Signs that point to scarring hair loss, which needs urgent care
- How strong your donor area is, if you are thinking of a transplant

When we go beyond the microscope
Some conditions sit deeper, in the follicles below the skin. In that case your trichologist discusses a biopsy. A few follicles are taken and sent for laboratory analysis. Blood tests can also check for iron, vitamin D and other factors.
