PRP is one of the state of the art, non-surgical, totally natural alternative medical procedure used at Hairhub Trichology Centre for treatment of hair loss or hair thinning in both men and women.
The function of platelets is to promote healing and aid in the clotting of blood at the site of the wound. The injection of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a technique using body’s own blood to heal itself. Hairhub incorporates its use for the growth of thinning hair and in stimulating inactive or newly implanted hair follicle into an active growth phase. PRP contains approximately five times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood.
The process is one that involves drawing 40-80 mls of your blood ,as though you are having a routine blood testing at your primary care physicians office , it’s then placed into a centrifuge ,which spins it and separates out the different components. The platelets are specifically isolated and then injected into the areas of thinning using thin needles in a stand-alone procedure. Specific nerve blocks may be applied to ease the discomfort associated with it. Once the PRP is injected in the areas of damaged follicles it amplifies the body’s naturally occurring cell regeneration mechanism to enhance hair growth.
The decision to use PRP is personal and is made after careful consideration and consultation with one of our Trichologists. It’s mainly prescribed for those patients are experiencing hair loss/thinning but their follicles are still in place. How a patient responds to the procedure can vary from person to person, and will depend on the intrinsic healing ability of one’s own body. Individuals receiving PRP exhibit improvement after about 2-3 months and the therapy are repeated every month for about 4-6 months depending on the level of response. For our transplant patients PRP therapy is commenced 3 weeks post-operatively.
The following medical conditions are a contra-indication to PRP therapy and thorough screening is done before the prescription is arrived at;
- Platelet dysfunction syndrome.
- Thrombocytopenia.
- Sepsis.
- Acute or chronic infections.
- Chronic liver disease.
- Anticoagulation therapy.
- Chronic skin disease/cancer.
- Metabolic systemic disorder.
